Turning to mid November we set off on our last IHSA competition of Fall 2019, embarking on another journey to both Cazenovia College and St. Lawrence University. This is the second to last show for our seniors Katrina Sharkey and Jen Powell. It is still surreal that after next semester these two beautiful ladies will no longer be tagging along in our shenanigans.
Once there, we arrived perfectly before schooling so we were ready to take notes and view the horses before the competition began. Julia and Autumn had great rides in their over fences classes as we started early to compensate for the long drive ahead of us after the show. Our flat classes featured great ribbon rides as we were able to return to campus before darkness set.
Our arrival at St. Lawrence was overshadowed by my hunger, and in the blackness of the evening we sprinted to the grocery store right across from our hotel. Surprising even ourselves with the healthy selection of food we purchased, we returned to our rooms and shackled in for the night.
Morning came under the brisk sunlight of Sunday. We were surprised with gift cards to Dunkin from the owner of Galement Farm and spent our rewards as we ventured to the competition facility and unloaded our belongings. Sitting back we munched away and began the ritual of studying the horses during schooling.
Constant banter at our coach to sit and do nothing all weekend was a good comedic relief as we crammed and studied for our upcoming finals together. Our day ended earlier than expected as we went our separate ways to catch up on sleep and unhealthy eating. The weekend ended too soon as we wrapped up the final classes we will be riding in for the year of 2019.
Our next and final competition of the season will be back in Cazenovia and St. Lawrence on Feb. 22 and 23 respectively.
Yours truly
